Same happend to me withXnViewMP 0.84 on Ubuntu 16.04.1, this problem bugged me for quite a while now.
I debugged the problem a little using strace. :bugconfirmed:
As describe in this post it's mostly about the Trash folder, with "Use recycle bin" enabled or working with files you don't have write ...

+1 for this request. With every version being released, I hope to see this in the change log.
With Linux file menu delete is working, but hitting the "Del" key triggers no actions in the image view. Enabling the "Del" key in the image view would speed up the process of sorting out pictures a lot.
