Re: Request to add an orientation column

in the info bar at the bottom, next to the image dimension you have the aspect ratio (most of the time a decimal number between 0 and 2, but it could be any non-negative decimal)

the aspect ratio tells you the orientation.
if it's > 1 then the image is horizontal
if it's between 0 and 1, then the ...

Re: canvas resize as a percentage of opposite side

is there any chance of it being implemented in a future release?

I'll even take a private build if you deem the feature too unnecessary for general use by the public.

the feature i'm requesting is in the top pic (the two extra buttons that let you pick whether the percentage you want is from the ...

Re: canvas resize as a percentage of opposite side

Do you have tried XnConvert?

I have.
The option for canvas resizing (according to the documentation) goes like this
You're referring to the commnad-line tool NConvert .
Pierre wants you to take a look at the canvas resize functions of the multi-platform GUI edition called XnConvert .

it doesn ...

canvas resize as a percentage of opposite side

Re: aspect-ratio-based canvas resize

If you think about it, wouldn't it always be preferable to oversample?

For instance:

I was thinking you could do
900/1.5 = 600
so 900x600 (aspect ratio 1.5)

or you could go
900 x 1.5 = 1350
and 900 x 1350 (still aspect ratio 1.5!)

If I understand you, the 2nd option would better preserve the ...

Re: aspect-ratio-based canvas resize

like I said, I think the hics will be with square or near-square pictures.
how do you decide which way to resize? (assuming print size is non-square)
say a bunch of scans come out
500x500
498x503
504x499
etc...

you could have a setting force add border left+right or top+bottom if 1 < aspect ratio ...

Re: aspect-ratio-based canvas resize

I was pondering over that smart orientation feature.

(see illustration)
say you have the 900x100 pic and you want a 4x6 print (aspect ratio 1.5)

I was thinking you could do
900/1.5 = 600
so 900x600 (aspect ratio 1.5)

or you could go
900 x 1.5 = 1350
and 900 x 1350 (still aspect ratio 1.5 ...

aspect-ratio-based canvas resize

problem: when you go to a photo lab to have your digital pictures printed, if the aspect ratio doesn't match that of the print size, the image gets cropped automatically. it doesn't matter if you request to have borders added. it adds borders on all 4 sides with the same cropping (meaning the ...

Re: canvas resize / white border / fixed aspect ratio

I uploaded my files here
http://www.sendspace.com/file/o0f4oz
sort them by name in xnview. the ones that are suffixed _resized have the operation I want done manually.

here's an example. view 03-17-06.jpg
the dimensions are 3272 (width) x 3263 (height)
do a test with calc (microsoft calculator in ...

Re: canvas resize / white border / fixed aspect ratio

I'm trying that, but I still keep getting incorrect aspect ratios.
I put 150% for width and 100% for height, but the aspect ratio of the resulting pic is still off (should be exactly 1.5 in viewer mode at the bottom left, but depending on the material, I get 1.3 2.1 1.94 etc; that's after the border ...

canvas resize / white border / fixed aspect ratio

is it possible to do a canvas resize with a fixed aspect ratio, but non-constant dimensions (just to add white borders)?

the source of my material is scans (about 1100 of them), so they don't have constant dimensions as in a digital camera (actually they vary quite wildly). I just need to add white ...
