If XnView start from file manager with open image file.
Ubuntu 16.04 x86_64.
1. click image in Nemo file manager for open to XnView
2. In XnView switch in Browser mode (double clik by my settings)
3. In browser select other pic and open
4. Again return to browser mode double with double click
5 ...

Holy... gvfs-bin has been deinstalled (who?). Reinstall and now deleting work normality and in view mode.
