I was going to delete this post but someone else might find this useful. I ended up having to delete the .ini and .db file and restarting the program. Not a perfect solution since I had to redo all of my preferences but the category function is back and working properly.
Unfortunately, I didn't ...

Solved: Mac OS Problems assigning and removing categories
Hello,
I am having problems assigning categories to photos and also removing categories from photos. I recently got a new computer and my photos database (not the XmView database) is now via external USB drive so I am not sure if that is the issue.

Re: 1.0 Mac OS: no option for "filter by" rating
Hello Pierre,
It appears that I have an option to filter by rating now. Not sure if it is implemented correctly however. Let me explain:
In the "filter by" dropdown, there is no option to filter by rating shown - the ratings are not there and the operands are not there. However:

1.0 Mac OS: no option for "filter by" rating
Hello,
I posted a comment to this old thread a few days ago and have not gotten a reply so thought maybe I should create a new one for the newer version.
I do not see where I have an option to use the operands = < > in the rating dropdown menu. In theory, this was corrected in version 0.69 as ...

Re: 0.68 mac: filter by rate is not effect
Hello. Do you know if this change was implemented in 1.0 for Mac OS? I don't seem to have this option. Mine looks similar to the previous screenshot.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: [solved] no category build on migration from digikam
That might be an option once I use the software for a while. I am really looking for a stable, simple to use DAM. And that is it. No editing, no fancy stuff. Just rating capabilities and categories. And stable. I do all of my editing externally (CaptureOne or Affinity, etc.)

Re: no category build on migration from digikam
Options that may cause problems :
settings > Catalog > Enable catalog must stay checked
and "Base path" should not be changed from default (empty or \ )
If you changed some options, perhaps a solution is to close xnviewmp, rename xnview.ini as xnviewini.old , rename xnview.db as xnviewdb.old and ...

Re: no category build on migration from digikam
Okay, I will give that a shot and report back. I guess I will also rename the xmp.ini file and the iptc.ini file and let them rebuild.

Re: no category build on migration from digikam
Yes, Michel. They are jpgs with IPTC keywords. If I go to tools>metadata>edit IPTC>keywords, all of the categories/keywords are there. Some hierarchal and some not but I think I am mixing them up now!michel038 wrote: Fri Jul 01, 2022 3:46 pm Are you talking about JPG pictures ?
With embedded iptc keywords ?

Re: no category build on migration from digikam
if you browse the folder, categories are imported?
No Pierre. Nothing gets added. I created a test folder with a few jpgs with oddball keywords and nothing gets added.
Also, if I add my test folder (or any folder) via the pref>catalog>import folder option, it shows 0 files and 0 bytes ...

Re: no category build on migration from digikam
Thank you for the suggestion Michel. I tried that but it didn't work. I seem to be getting further away. None of the photos are reflecting category "assignment". In it's current state, I would have to reassign all of my categories to each and every photo. Nothing was picked up on the import. I feel ...

Good morning,
No, preferences>catalog>import folder
Also, under metadata "import xmp subject or IPTC keyword to catalog categories" is checked.

Re: Please elaborate on "this picture will be converted to rgb ..."
Possibly the wording of the warning message could be enhanced by indicating that the original file will not be altered?
May I suggest something like:
'This picture can only be opened as rgb with 8 bits per component, the original file will only be altered if the image is resaved with the ...
