Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Yes, this works in this case. Unfortunately it takes long time aswell because of the slow datarate, but I can already recognize progress. Also, I need to be careful as photos with two categories, for example Category A and Category B, are easily renamed twice as they appear in both categories. I ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Most of my photos are .png files. I do not need this to be metadata, file information is sufficient. Thats why earlier I wrote that maybe now that categories filter work again I can use other methods of assigning the photos to the matching category like EXIF description or even simply adding the ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Ok, I am not sure if this is what I want to achieve nor if I understand the difference correctly. Updated XMP Metadata is Information assigned to the Photos wich is only available and updatable within XnViewMP, while by creating XMP Data a separate .xmp File is created? A new .xmp file would be a ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

As described, I used the update files from catalog function on one photo and the Category information was written in the XMP Data, so I know that this already worked with the configuration seen above. Am I understanding correctly that by activating the Export function all photos XMP Data is updated ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Thanks again for the response! I only see the XMP Information at the moment, not the IPTC. My Tools > Settings > Metadata Konfiguration looks like this. xnview_support_10.PNG I tested the update files from catalog function on one photo, and now I can find the Category Information as dc: and lr: in ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

I changed the path to the network drive and imported the new .xml file again. After waiting some time, finally all categories got imported correctly. Now i was able to use the update files from catalog function. Now where is the information being stored in the photo? I cannot find it being assigned ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

After waiting abound 12h Xnview stopped the importing process but now only abound 1/6 of the category info was imported. I guess this is due to the slow connection to the network drive.

Here is my update from 31.01.24. I now saved my Photos to an external harddrive (D:/) with much quicker datarate ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

As far as I am understanding this, I'm not importing a DB, but only the .xml for creating the DB file. In fact my .db on Win10 is a much bigger file than the .xml file (305336kb > 7129kb). I am importing the .xml file from my computers internal Harddrive (C:/). The Program Xnview runs on my internal ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Importing the categories seems to be even slower than just moving the photos back to the original path location. I just canceled the import operation after waiting about 7 hours, removed the basepath, cleared all categories and started importing again. There is no Z:'. It's Z:\.. but I blackened the ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

There was an Error in the endcoding of "ä" in the path, after changing it and importing .xml file again there was a process bar loading. I checked the next day and it only imported a tiny fraction of the data and the files paths are marked with an exclamation mark. I just started the importing ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

I just deleted the XnView.db file (only this one file, not deleting the whole folder content) and after opening xnview a new .db was created immediately and now under categories filter section there no photos assigned and only the standard categories exist. After importing the .xml still nothing has ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Alright found it, thanks! I was able to export the .xml(Categories > File's Categories > Export...), change all the paths in the text editor from the :/C location to the network storage location, but after importing the .xml file in Xnview again (Categories > File's Categories > Import...) I could ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Alright I found the button atleast when selecting existing photos with the correct path in the right location. In this case though, that doesn't work as the photos are not available in the folder and I can't change the Category nor open the "Categories" panel. I need to find another solution I guess.

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

I was able to locate the .db file. It was saved in the programs folder on C:/ volume. xnview_support_2.PNG The following instructions I could not follow along, sorry. I do not see where to export the xml file as I don't see the button to Export at the drop down menu of categories. xnview_support_3 ...

Re: Categories, Color Coding saved to Image to use on MacOS and Win10

Thanks again for the response! I think A) might just be the exact solution I was looking for. Unfortunately I just realized, that there is another problem/this is a more complex problem.
I assinged the categories to the photos when they were saved on my local harddrive, then I transfered all of ...
