Finally!
There was a "preview" in between View and Zoom... View - Preview - Zoom - Lock zoom.
If I was in file managemebnt view (i e thumbnails) this was the case.
If on the other hand I opened the View roll-down while showing a full picture file, regardless of zoomed in or not, the View had Zoom ...

The "lock zoom" should be exactly what I am searching for.
But I am lost as where to find it - All I've seen is on the 'Settings/View" page where I've chosen "last used". The box 'Reset auto zoom' I have tried with both versions, but unchecked seems most reasonable.
