Re: Is there a way to remove a horizontal or vertical section of an image?
My apologies, I accidentally mislead you because I was running a different version from you.
If you're using XnViewMP version 1.9.3, the procedure would be like you describe, and a slightly different order from my previous post:
Select, Cut, Move the selection box, then Paste. Then ESC or click ...

When you Paste, there will be a selection box around the pasted content. Now you can DRAG the pasted content down to where you want it, covering up the stripe you want gone. Now click the Apply button to drop the selection and remove the selection box.

Re: Is there a way to remove a horizontal or vertical section of an image?
Zealous crop available in Batch convert
request to add it into Viewer:
'Cut Out' a section vertically or horizontally
Wow, 'zealous crop' looks interesting. It does appear to go way beyond what I want (in other dimensions :) ), and also, seems to only try to remove (eg) pure white space ...

Re: 'Cut Out' a section vertically or horizontally
I'd like to add my vote for an implementation exactly like IrfanView's feature, as mentioned by another user upthread: "In IrvanView this function is called "Remove/Insert Strip" and is very useful, for example when working with larger Screenshots"

The only way I can think to do this in XnViewMP is just to do a cut/paste and then an auto-crop. Obviously that's not a single step though.

Can you elaborate on this, please? I just did a quick search and it seems that 'auto-crop' will crop the outer edges of an image based on a ...

Re: Ctrl-E (Effects) shortcut on Mac
I'd still love to use Ctrl-E on the Mac (as it is what I use on the PC) but - I did find that I can remap shortcuts (on the Mac, it's Main menu / Preferences, then 'shortcuts' in the 'interface' section). Here, I was able to take 'shift-E' away from 'enhance colors' and assign it to 'Effects'.
I ...

Re: Persistent settings on tools
I noticed on the Mac, the way to remap shortcuts is (main XnView menu) / Preferences, then choose 'shortcuts' in the 'Interface' section.
And on Windows, the way to remap shortcuts is (Tools menu) / Settings, then choose 'shortcuts' in the 'Interface' section.

Is there a way to remove a horizontal or vertical section of an image?
As noted elsewhere, I'm migrating from IrfanView to XnView because XnView is available on both Mac and Windows, and I'm forced to work in both worlds. Generally, XnView does most of what I need.

Ctrl-E (Effects) shortcut on Mac
I've started to use XnView because it is available on both Mac and PC, and I'm enjoying it.
However, one of my favorite keyboard shortcuts on Windows does not work on Mac - Ctrl-E to invoke the 'Effects' menu.
Is there any way to do this, on the Mac?
Thanks!

Re: Removing cross that allows closing folder/ favorites windows
To fix it you should drag favorites window to a side of a screen and it will dock.
Interesting; I'm running XnView on my Win PC, my Mac, and the Win version on my Mac in a 'wine bottle' (I'm doing some testing ... trying to decide if I can migrate from Win to Mac, and being able to use XnView ...

Re: Removing cross that allows closing folder/ favorites windows
I wasn't familiar with the icons you mentioned, but I was intrigued so I took a look. I was able to achieve what I THINK you want by going to View / Panels / Show Title of Panels (deselect this item). By doing this, the 'heading row' disappears completely, along with the 'x' and the other icon. This ...

Ctrl+C copy Image content & filename
I just opened a jpg file with XnView on the Mac, then used 'Ctrl+C', then pasted into a word document. The image content was copied/pasted to word. I then used 'Cmd+C', and got the exact same result. In what way is 'filename' involved or used? (I also tried ...

Re: Problem installing 1.9.2 in windows - shell extension issue
Bonjour!
But I just ran into the problem while installing 1.9.2, so what do you mean by "no more as default in 1.9.2 setup"? That makes it sound like it should no longer happen.

Problem installing 1.9.2 in windows - shell extension issue
I just installed XnView MP 1.9.2 x64 on windows 11. During the install, the installer reports that explorer is running. You can choose to 'shut down' explorer, or 'ignore (not recommended)'. This is the exact same issue I ran into when installing XnView 1.8.7, and also 1.8.3 - reported in this forum ...

Keyboard Shortcuts, Cmd-C in particular
I notice that the keyboard shortcut for Edit / Copy to Clipboard / Image Content is 'Ctrl-Shift-C'. That's not easy for me to remember. But the 'universal standard' for 'copy' is 'Cmd-C' and ... it seems to work for me just like Ctrl-Shift-C. So is there any difference between the two?
