Re: 1.01: Incorrectly displays 16 bit b/w TIFF
Yes - I included a link. When I first started this thread I tried to attach an image but there was a message indicating some quote or other site problem prevented me from doing so.

Re: 1.01: Incorrectly displays 16 bit b/w TIFF
I think I replied by private message - but don't 100% understand the system as it says it is "Sent" but still seems to be in the Outbox. Please let me know if you didn't get it.

1.01: Incorrectly displays 16 bit b/w TIFF
XnView: MP 1.01 64bits (Aug 8 2022)
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Cannot properly render 16 bit TIFF files
Effect: Image displays like a negative with incorrect pallette
To reproduce:
1. Double-click a 16 bit b/w TIFF file (from Epson Scan 2)

Re: What happened to the adaptive palette?
Thanks - but I don't see that option in the gui.
In the reduction to binary there is a "Binary (Floyd Steinberg)", and in the Image - "Convert to colours..." "Dithering - Floyd Steindberg" (which also seems to be spelt incorrectly).
These don't help in reducing file sizes because random dithering ...

Re: What happened to the adaptive palette?
OK - I experimented with the Clear Type setting and here are my discoveries:
(Environment: Windows 7 Pro x64, NVIDIA Quadro 6000)
Firstly, Windows 7 is a bit tricky about turning Clear Type off.
Once you have opened the "Adjust Clear Type text"/"Clear Type Text Tuner" panel and unchecked it, the ...

Re: What happened to the adaptive palette?
Although the input appears to have only 10 distinct colours, the number of colours is numerous because anti-aliasing was applied by the program that generated the graphic (I believe the total number of colours is 208). Effectively what I am seeking to do is remove the anti-aliasing and get back to ...

Re: What happened to the adaptive palette?
My objective is to reduce the number of colours as much as possible without significantly changing the appearance of the graphic.
What this achieves is a reduction in size of the file.
I like to use 'lossless' PNG to do this
The graphics I am reducing is essentially a kind of line art or cartoon ...

What happened to the adaptive palette?
I am wondering what happened to the "Convert to Colours" with Adaptive palette.
Is the "None" option equivalent? If so then I suppose the algorithm doesn't work as well for me as I think it used to as white backgrounds often get changed to a pale colour (I would have thought when white was the ...

"Not enough memory" errors opening some TIFF files
Found a number of TIFF files which XnView won't open while other viewers do (BlueView, Windows Photo Viewer, Paint etc.)
The error I get from XnView is "Not enough memory" but the files are much small than others I regularly open and my workstation has 96GB of RAM (Win7 Pro 64bit).

Text and background black on Solaris - menus thus unreadable
Anyone know the cure for this?
I am running Solaris 8 with CDE on Sun Blade 2000
I played around for a while with the application defaults (had to create the directory the installation tries to put them in and create the env var) but nothing seems to change it.
