Re: Scanning with XnView
My understanding is that the TWAIN interface used by XnView and other imaging programs (to drive and control scanners and the scanning process) does not provide the same level of scanner control as does the scanner manufacturer's program. A scanner mfgr can make a new hardware-based feature, like sp...

Re: Composition program
JohnFredC: I'm familiar with Picasa's various collage-making options, but not with the drag-and-drop capability to which you refer. Perhaps that choice is well hidden? In any case, thanks for the suggestion.
XnTriq, thanks for the additional leads. I'm checking them out.

Composition program for mosaics and collages
Although XnView meets most of my needs for image manipulation, one thing it does not do is allow me to make one large image from multiple smaller ones. "Collage" and "Strip of Images" are great at what they do, but I would like a free-form option, where I can insert and position various images on th...

Re: Automatic rotation
XnTriq, you may be right about the tool, but the straightening I was referring to is automatic. The method that XnView uses for manually straightening photos is fine (though Google's and Apple's is perhaps a little easier). But what I'm hoping Pierre will want to add is some AUTOMATIC straightening ...

Re: Automatic rotation
Rene-- I just heard of the feature you describe from a friend with a Mac, and he wasn't sure of the software--something that came with the computer when he bought it. But it does exactly as you say: allows you to scan multiple images (like photos on a page) with one scan, which would normally make o...

RSS Feed
I'd like to request that a moderator post instructions, maybe in th "Info & Forum" forum, on how to link to RSS feeds for the XnView Forum. Although I figured out how to do this some time ago, I unsubscribed and now can't remember what I did last time! I've searched all of the forums, I think, and c...

Re: Automatic rotatation
Thank you, XnTriq, good reading. However, we still don't have a solution, as far as I can tell. It is possible to do a pretty good job of straightening an image--but it is slow, inefficient, and approximate. Better would be a one-click "straighten" function that finds an edge, automatically aligns i...

Automatic rotation
Any time one scans pictures, a very big problem is alignment/rotation. It is very difficult to get the photos in the scanner to be perfectly aligned, therefore it is necessary to use XnView's "Rotate" capabilities to adjust the image by one or two degrees, or perhaps less. If one does a lot of scann...

Re: Displaying JPGs with metadata in browser mode
Marsh-- I unchecked caching, and now images are displayed at their proper size (in browser mode). However, when I turn caching back on, XnView apparently retrieves the cached material for other folders--those that I didn't view when caching was off--and displays those improperly-small images. I unde...

Re: Displaying JPGs with metadata in browser mode
Thank you, Marsh. However, I changed the setting for "Use embedded thumbnail" and it doesn't make any difference. I also read your request to delete/rename the xnview.ini file, so as to restore "factory" default settings. I did that too, and it also did not make any difference. Thumbnails with EXIF ...

Re: Displaying JPGs with metadata in browser mode
With a little more research, it appears that the problem is related only to the presence of EXIF data. If it is present, then the image displays at the reduced size; if it is not present, the image displays at normal size. The presence/absence of other metadata doesn't appear to make a difference.
