I totally disagree with you Thibaud. Dual browser panes in XnView would rock.
It could rock indeed.

but what about making xnview rock right now ? with it's current feature set.

You'll certainly agree with me that a good part of "making it rock" goes into the way features are implemented rather ...

Well You certainly have my vote against this.

I don't understand how you can possibly request such thing for a image viewer.

take a few steps back, think again, and go ask your file manager developer to more tightly integrate image files

display speed
If you mean zooming and scrolling then you are right. If you mean display of thumbnails, then I think you are wrong: In the past there have been discussions regarding speed, the result and outcome is that with same quality level XnView is at the same level with other image viewer. And ...

My feeling is that XnView (actually its programmer, namely Pierre) should not invest all the time in new features but also refine existing features and make them 100% usable.
100% agree with that.

In short here is why I keep on trying to use xnview as a replacement for my current image viewer ...

I still prefer the native Windows 2000 look. But I'm quite intrigued by the Qt-look of XnView MP. If the GUI (resizing preview area) only wasn't so damn laggy.

I really wonder what you guys are talking about...
besides xnviewmp being alpha, it actually feels at least as fast and responsive than ...

• So, please explain me how you define and save decently a customized layout ?
For this, I would recommend Pierre to take the solution most widely used by any other program, that is:
Make the free mode preset based and adding 3 commands under the layout selection menu:

."new layout": opens an ...

yup 16x16 isn't very big but Hopefully this should make it slightly clearer

besides free layout is the way to go!
I don't see the point of a layout sandbox when you can do it in place.

On your sample, you have no shadow?

actually there is a dropshadow,
just enough to look good (pops the thumbnail up).
not to much so you don't notice it too much (instead of the thumbnail).
that's how a drop shadow should be used imho.

if you think about it, theses interface elements are not ...

forgot to add:
selection feedback would also be much better identified if they were overlayed on the whole cell instead of the just a small red border around the thumbnail.

a small image is worth a thousand...
so here is a very simple example of how the thumbnail could be styled.
allowing quite a few variation (from lightroom to acdsee) with not too many controls.

at the moment thumbnail styling in xnview is ...
