Very interesting. I assume it's not exactly lossless, but it's still could be quite useful.

Just so it's clear what we are talking about.

Even Firefox 3.5.5 is somewhat buggy. You can see it on Santa's bag.DOS386 wrote:Another interesting point is that the 3 "evil" APNG's also securely hang some older APNG-unaware versions of FireFOX, a fact that somewhat defeats the "backward compatibility".

Yeah, that happens with all indexed (mode 3) APNGs. Instead of using palette, individual frames displayed in grayscale.XnTriq wrote:In XnView v1.97 beta 1 & 2 the animation is played back just fine, but when I'm clicking on Previous page/Next page all frames are displayed as black rectangles.

Re: Alpha channel is ignored for grayscale PNG
Bump?
I'm very happy with all the PNG improvements in 1.97b1, but there is one basic PNG feature left - mode 4 (grayscale+alpha).
PNG mode 4 is still not supported by XnView.

Probably using libpng for conversion stuff, but XnView own core library for viewing?XnTriq wrote:Isn't it interesting that XnView v1.96.5 does a better job creating the thumbnail than with the preview:
