I am not sure that can be fixed. If you delete a subfolder in windows explorer, it does the saame; returns you to the root
If you stay in the root folder and delete it from the right side view, you don't get that
So it is more of a windows annoyance than something specific to XnView

Since I have been unable to consistently reproduce the batch convert / categories issue, I am adding it as a feature request
I would like to see the batch converter gain the ability to maintain categories when it does it's other functions such as resizing and moving pictures to another folder ...

I don't know what layout you have but I have on the left side Folders, Favorites, category filters and categories
If you set your categories from that module you can add, move, combine or do about anything else with them

AFAIK the portable version is totally portable. HOWEVER when I moved to the portable version there were left over registry keys which I hunted out of the registry

But do you have changed "settings>Metadata>Export category to ..." before to set some categories? Else categories are not written in the file.

Let me make a few more tests. I just resized one in place and it kept the categories

I just finished. I probably didn't need a "Settings" folder. Be that as it may, it worked flawlessly
I copied the appdata stuff to the settings folder
Moved the xnview.ini to the program folder
Then moved my batch templates into the program folder

Doesn't the optimum setting to use in Task Manager depend on what else you may wish to do while Batch convert is running, and their relative priorities?
In Chuclkles previous thread Tips for faster batch image processing I thought that he had confirmed that selecting the option in the application ...

I think I will make a "settings" folder for the portable version then dump the appdata stuff there. Then change the configuration to point there. (Then move my batch presets to the program folder as they are in the installed version. I'll let you know how that goes

Open task manager. via search or CONTROL/ALT/DELETE
