Instant Save Settings -> "[] Only one Instance"

Post by brotondi » Sun Apr 01, 2007 7:07 pm

Normally I work with "[x] Only one Instance". But sometimes I need a second one.

If at this moment I should not close XNview I have to change "OnlyOneInstance=0" in the xnview.ini

If xnview.ini would be saved instantly after "OK" in Settings. This would not be necessary.

(Sorry for the delay, forgot this thread)

Try this:
[x] only one instance
Start XNView
[ ] only one instance
Start XNView

-> There ist still only one instance since the settings have not been saved yet and so the new instance does not know I need her...

I prefer instant save of settings also because XNView is still crashing sometimes and then all changes are lost.

Greetings

Bruno

BUG !

:) Hi Bruno !
…[x] only one instance
Start XNView
[ ] only one instance
Start XNView
• I tested that, and you are right, that sounds rather as a :bug: !

• I use also [x] Only one instance always, and when you untick the box >> OK,
the INI MUST be updated, and obviously it is not !
- It works as it should in 1.82.4, you could verify whether you have it installed still…

• It's the reason for which I've been always in favour of an “Apply” button, that allows too to change several settings
without the need to close the Options box for each…
- We have it in Total Commander on all Options pages, and it's really great and useful !
The changes are applied immediately, no close¦restart is needed…

• Aside : Using [x] Only one instance prevents to start several versions of XnView, that is annoying,
and caused by the single registry key…
- Another instance and another version are two quite different things, are they not ?
- It should be useful for me to get several versions, keeping [x] Only one instance
to avoid a pretty mess then in my workflow…

Hi Clo

Thanks for your big reply :)

-> "Only one instance" without testing earlier versions of XNView is very usefull for me. I hope this will not change ;).

Suggestion 2: Perhaps a command line switch could also bypass this test allowing to start a second instance as exception.

But best would be the Possibility to start a seconden instance from inside XnView without testing this setting (I think this makes also necessary the command line option since XnView needs to tell the new instance to bypass the test)
(See http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=12397 for this Suggestion)

Greetings, Bruno
