No delay preview.

Post by tannim »

Is it possible to remove any delay between previews? Clicking with mouse is fine, but scrolling through pictures with the arrow keys I can really feel that delay.

Given modern hardware there's no real reason to have any sort of delay while moving through pictures.

Also pressing and holding up means that the preview is stopped until I let up. Is it possible to make it read each file that the selector moves over even when press and hold.

Thanks Pierre,
That works in v1.93.6B1 in the Browser section (xnview.ini) :
NoDelayedPreview=1

Hmm... it's not so perfect IMHO, sorry, but the navigation is not so good/smooth if this option is enabled, I think the delay in ms ini option would be better.

NoDelayedPreview=1 added to the INI DOES help greatly, though it is not 100% successful. Holding down up or down does not show all the files but it does show most of them. Manually pressing up and down rapidly works very well now with no delay I can see.

It is much better than it was and I can live with it like this :) Holding up or down to show a bunch of pictures really quick, while fun for me, is not very important since I cannot see most of them anyway.

Thank you for that very important feature.

yeah would be nice if xnview could speed up loading up of images.. like for me I know often use the mousewheel to skip forward and sometimes backwards on images checking differences only these files are often 3mb+ big in files size.. so the delay between new images showing on the screen adds up.. I suppose the high quality resizing doesn't help either

couldn't xnview do these calculations before I mousewheel to the next image in the folder or whatever process that could help speed up showing of images on screen more instantly.. maybe cache the last image in memory and the calculate the proceeding one?

Hi,

I have just instealled XnV and cannot find the INI file to edit. Where is it?

The delayed skipping through files is something I would like to solve.

Thank you.

Go into XNView's options, click System Integration then set Save Options as an INI in XnView. Close XnView, Go to your XnView directory, edit the xnview.ini and put "NoDelayedPreview=1" with no quotes in the alphebetical position under the Browser Section. Save the INI

Yeah they added it to the program (non alpha/beta) after I posted the Q so got it working :)

Wondering if there is a way to show files are Im skipping through them now, like ACDSee - holding down the SPACE bar and the images flicker on the screen as I run through them looking for the one Im after.

Thanks

seriously can't xnview start pre caching next/previous images into memory as a user gets close to them.. but it would sure as hell speed up going through images.. so when I stay on an image even just for a couple of seconds, at least xnview is already getting the next in the image directory ready for instant super fast viewing.. not only loading it and applying its smoothing onto the image when I move onto it.. common surely a bit more clever programming could be used to start making going through images a super fast experience..

also same with it remember that last viewed image.. don't know just how much it pisses me off when I want to quickly compare 2 images by mousewheel toggling between the two, only to realize xnview is too stupid to keep both images in cache, and instead its generating the same damn cpu intensive image smoothing everytime, even if the image i'm viewing was only just onscreen a second ago!.. really sucks big time in slowness for larger image files.. like from 7mp+ size camera shots.. and i'm wanting decide quickly which images I want to keep and chuck!..

Is it possible to have teh NoDelayPreview option added to the option menu instead of manually having to edit the INI file to turn it on? Even semi-modern computers can handle this feature.
