In XnView one can view thumbnails in the browser, view a selected image in a larger size in the preview pane and open images in the full screen editor.
I would love to see XnView featured with a quickly accessible button or checkbox to let the preview pane show the selected image in a tiled representation.
For example: the image selected in the browser is

With tiling button activated the preview pane shows something like this:

So the image is repeatedly copied on the right and bottom side of the original (not flipped, mirrored or whatever) until the whole preview area is filled.
This feature is particularly useful for designing texture fills, backgrounds, etc. An image viewer with a tiling mode feature helps a lot finding the right image (often a seamlessly tiled one) for the goal one is after (web designer, scrapbooker, technical 2D or 3D drawing artist, etc.). Or for checking if a designed tile image (any image file format) needs some patching up before usage.
I'm surprised this feature is requested mány years ago already and tthe subject hasn't been discussed much other than some replies posted long after asking about the status of that topic.
I would think such a feature isn't hard to implement or that much time consuming (comparing with other features added to XnView) while the ones who need it would welcome it greatly.
XnView is a wonderful versatile multipurpose image viewer and editor; a tiled preview feature seems to me really not off-topic at all.
Cheers,
