REQ: Minor: Space key to select custom files/folders
Use Space key (and Insert key) to select custom files/folders, as in file managers. Same as Ctrl+LMB click.

Pierre,
it's the same as if you select files and folders in xnview with Shift+arrows or with a mouse - e.g. for slideshow or batch rename...
It is already possible in xnview with Ctrl+LMB click, you can try...
The main advantage is that you could select any/custom files/folders, you can't do it with Shift+arrows.

...of course also (and mainly) for Cut/Copy/Paste.Dreamer wrote:it's the same as if you select files and folders in xnview with Shift+arrows or with a mouse - e.g. for slideshow or batch rename...
I guess that in TC if you press Space (or Insert) key, position is not changed, this is not good, because you must press Space key, down key, Space key, Down key... very annoying if you want select many files.
So I suggest this behavior (same as in my file manager - Servant Salamander):
- press Space (or Insert)
- file/folder is selected
- position is changed to next file
- press Space (or Insert)
- file/folder is selected
- position is changed to next file
...
Of course the same way for deselecting files/folders.

Hi !
- In TC, you use Space-bar when you want to select ONE marked file / folder. This is by design. On a folder (if enabled Options >> Operation), you get the size of the content too.
- With the Insert key, you don't need to move the cursor : each time you press Insert, you add an item (file or folder) to the selection; all items formerly selected remain selected!
- You can use too Shift+LMB to select a block of consecutive items… and indeed CTRL (kept pressed) + LMB to select scattered items located at any rank in the list… You can also save a selection in a file, load one from a file…

thanks for explanation, so I want "Insert key behavior from TC" for Space and Insert keys to xnview
I think this behavior should be postponed:On a folder (if enabled Options >> Operation), you get the size of the content too

Selection not changed
Hello !
- In both cases (Insert or Space-bar), the arrows keys Up / Down - or all in thumbnail-view - move the cursor, but don't affect the established selection. I mean : the single item selected with Space-bar stays selected, or those selected with Insert do the same…

Dreamer,
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=5070
This thread is called 'Hotkeys/Shortcuts Request List'. But in the only post it then says 'Keyboard shortcuts'. Is this now a request list? Where are the requests? Is this post up-to date at all?
My question: What does 'Select custom files/folders (in browser)' mean? Custom??? What I see when I use these keys should be called 'Tag/Untag selected files/folders in browser'. Yes?

Yes, it's a request list. If you'll scroll down, you'll see this:pic_viewer wrote:Dreamer,

"Notes:
If you want support Custom Hotkeys/Shortcuts, you can do it here.
You can make requests for new hotkeys and shortcuts here, or you can start a new topic (for larger requests).
Before you make a request, make sure that it hasn't been requested before (above) and check whether this hotkey/shortcut is not reserved for another option. You can find a list of all hotkeys/shortcuts in the XnView Help (press F1 in XnView to show) or here."
The last version shortcuts are missing, because of changes - it's a problem now, we have to find a way to update the Help file. Two lists are useless.
Yes, it's working now almost the same - you can use tag instead of select - however request is still valid.pic_viewer wrote:My question: What does 'Select custom files/folders (in browser)' mean?
