Auto-scroll for film-strip layout

Post by ouistiti » Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:15 pm

Hello all,

I'm not as so enthusiastic about the film-strip layout.
Why? Because I wonder that the most useful and "natural" feature which should come with it is missing. I mean : an auto-scroll command.

Maybe in a future version ?

Friendly

Paul

:) Hello Paul !
- Absolutely right ! I couln't find out such a command… I guess it should be added in a next version, with the appropriate main option : tweak the scrolling speed. A relative scale could do the trick, i.e. :
1———2———3———4———5
« Slow——————————Fast »

I still don't know what you're talking about, could you explain please?

Do you mean something like this?

- right-click on preview
- quick slide show

Two things : travelling and slide show…

:) Hello !

- In fact, that request contains two parts { so, you can split it again if you wish … :P }
However, they are the two arms of the same body, I guess.

1. To get a command allowing to SCROLL automatically and progressively the film-strip, with the possibility to stop the progression at any time using the same bistable command ( I mean a key, of course). This without any preview, indeed. It could be possible to get the reverse scrolling, with another key-combination like Ctrl+(auto-scroll key).
- Currently, the mouse is unable to scroll the film-strip else than manually, using the scroll-bar and its ends buttons; not very user-friendly…
- You can use the Left / Right arrows, but the stripe advances picture by picture, with a preview for each, so not progressively.

2. According to my tests, you can launch a Quick slide show -for the thumb-nails of the stripe-
from the preview local menu only.
- Here, the ‹Space-bar› or the ‹Pause› key doesn't work. :|
• Hence, it should be great to get at least one key working in the same way than in the “View” mode.

• Further, one can imagine combinations of these two features, in example :
a - Auto-scroll a big directory up to a certain group of images (let's say, the photos of your beloved mother-in-law) using the key "X…" (to define)
b - Stop the scrolling by the same key when the wanted photos (or whatever) are reached.
c - Launch directly a Quick slide show for this group by the ‹Space-bar› or the ‹Pause› key…
d - Stop it when needed using the same key,
e - Restart the Auto-scroll up to another group of images … and so on.

 Kind regards,
Claude

Clo,

thanks for explanation (I thought it's like that).

I support this request, maybe in 1.81.

I suggest add Pause key only to start/stop Quick Slide Show in browser (if possible in 1.80).

(I don't want use Space key here since I want another feature for this key, in 1.81)

:) Hello !

• Thanks for support !
- The “travelling” scrolling is really missing currently…
- What about F9 (Ctrl+F9 for reverse) to launch / stop it ? In a reverse scrolling, F9 only could be able to stop…

- To launch / stop a Quick slide show, the <Pause> key could be convenient too, if you prefer the <Space-bar> to select an item. ;)

Well, it needs time for design… It should be nice in 1.81 I think.

 Kind regards,
Claude

Just an idea for the scrolling: Google Earth offers an auto-scrolling. You can drag the map with the mouse cursor. Depending on the mouse movement when releasing the mouse cursor, the map will stop or continue scrolling. This is a pretty intuitive solution and you can even control the speed of the scrolling.

Not sure whether this special type for triggering the auto-scrolling could be applied here. The main question is whether it is obvious enough for people that there is such a possibility.

I don't understand this feature, do you know a program with this feature?

Interesting. The ability to slowly scroll a set of thumbnails horizontally or vertically. I was thinking about a slow arrow/key, then I found this topic about start/stop.
