Hi,
I just installed XnView and I like it but I am missing a delete image button in the toolbar in the normal view mode (one by one).
I searched the Options box carefully and couldn't find it. Only in the explorer mode with thumbnails.
I need this button. How do you delete the images then?
Thank you

Re: Delete image button in toolbar?
The toolbars in Basic, View, and Browser mode are customizable. You can add all kinds of functions if needed. Below is a description for your special case, the steps below can be used as step-by-step instruction for adding other commands.
How to add a "Delete" button in toolbar
1. Start XnView
2. Open Options using menu "Tools > Options"
3. In options switch to category "Interface > Toolbar"
4. Select the mode which you want to set the toolbar. (In your case: "View")
5. Press button "Append" to append a new separator (=dummy) at the very right of the toolbar. In the next steps, this separator will be converted into the desired button.
6. From the drop downlist "Command" select a command (In your case: cmd_Delete)
7. For some functions, an icon will be suggested. If you don't have an icon, you may select an icon file using the "..." button.
8. Use buttons "<" and ">" for positioning your new button.
9. If you want to add additional buttons or separators, repeat from step 5.

Excellent. It worked. Thank you Helmut. Danke sehr
Not exactly an intuitive system but it's alright.
But I am curious about this. Why such a good and complete program to view images and videos doesn't have a delete button in the toolbar by default.
Regards and thank you very much.

Good to read that it worked. I guess most people use the "Del" key for deletion, so there's not a real need for a delete button.kd5 wrote:Excellent. It worked. Thank you Helmut. Danke sehrNot exactly an intuitive system but it's alright.

Re: Delete image button in toolbar?
Hmm... I have been using computers every day for 20 years and I have never deleted an image by pressing Del. I didnt even know that it was possible. And I don't even find it handy. We work so much with long time habits. I am just an advanced normal user, not a computers professional.
If you are involved in the development, be careful because sometimes people who know very much about computers assume that average users will know as much as they do and will have those habits and taste. And we don't. That happens a lot for instance in Linux. You notice all the time that the guys who make it and the Linus programs are geeks and make things difficult for normal people.
I must say that I had tried XnView a few times in the past and dropped it because I found that it was lacking some very basic things, so I always stayed with the old but very functional ACDSee 3.1. I never took the time to look for a forum of XnView and ask how to do it. And I believe that that must be the case of many other people like me.
For the rest, it is a wonderful program, but I think that a Delete button doesn't hurt and can be important for many new users with little knowledge. Also an easier system to add buttons or change skins, for instance. I would also appreciate a function to go to next image by clicking once on the main window. Just suggestions, not critics.
Thank you very much.
