XnView classic doesn't display video thumbnails, MP doesn't let me change thumbnail size

I'm having problems with both apps so I thought I'd integrate both in a single thread.
As per the title, both apps have different issues that make them a dealbreaker for me

At first I tried MP, which worked great except for the fact that setting a custom thumbnail size does literally nothing. I tried restarting the app, restarting the pc, nothing. I then started playing around with the options for border size and margin and it worked fine, showed the change in real time. Checking and unchecking the option to show 4 thumbnails for videos and folders also does nothing.

Then I moved to Classic to see if it had the same problem. Setting thumbnail width and height works perfectly, the option to show 4 thumbnails still doesn't work (no option for videos), and for some reason it won't display thumbnails for video files, instead showing the icon.

Yeah apparently I had to set the thumbnail size option in the view dropdown menu to custom in order to make the changes stick, I didn't see that option at first.
