rotate and cut in one step
I work as a professional photographer.
At work I am sorry to use Windows and Adobe Photoshop. In my
spare time I try to do all the work with Ubuntu. That's why I'm on that
excellent program XnView encountered. The IPTC data is for me very
important. XnView does the job perfectly-thank you very much.
What I really miss would be a cutting tool that can rotate in one step
and cut (such as Photoshop, cutting tool).
Such a tool would save me a lot of work. So you plan such a tool for one
of the next versions???

Re: rotate and cut in one step
Hallo!
it is much easier! the tool is in the toolbar. I've added a screenshot.
I would suggest the following:
how would it be like, if it were possible for 10 selected images, for example, the cut to be determined. Then press a botton and XnView calculates the clippings. That would be great!

Re: rotate and cut in one step
Currently it is:
1.) Rotate whole image to straighten it.
2.) Select area
3.) Crop
The new use case would be:
1.) Select area
2.) Adjust selection (e.g. rotate if needed)
3.) Crop
Sounds like a smoother and more flexible workflow to me.
The only addition in XnView would be the possibilty to rotate the selection, right?

Re: rotate and cut in one step
Already supported in 0.38.10.
- 1. Start the crop tool (click toolbar button)
2. Select a rectangle
3. Point at a corner of the selection marque: observe rotation mouse cursor
4. Rotate the crop by dragging a corner
5. Clip "Crop" button on Crop toolbar

Re: rotate and cut in one step
Slow=14 secs cropping to a rotated crop marque on a 4k x 6k jpg (using steps listed in my previous post).
My machine is old (Intel 2.8c, 2Gb, XP SP 3), though, so perhaps that is the cause.
Or maybe MP is doing a free rotate on the image first (to rectify the marque), then performing the crop. Free rotate in XnView 1.x has always been relatively slow.

Yes, it's a free rotate. So i think that you have almost the same time?JohnFredC wrote:Slow=14 secs cropping to a rotated crop marque on a 4k x 6k jpg (using steps listed in my previous post).

Re: rotate and cut in one step
I'm sorry Pierre, but no:xnview wrote: So i think that you have almost the same time?
Free rotate 20 degrees
- 6000x4000 jpeg
XnView 1.98.2: ~4 seconds
- 6000x4000 jpeg
MP 0.38.10: ~9 seconds
(Exciting possibilities in a future MP version for a more interactive rotation UI, though! )
