XMP Tab in browser - Let's finally bring...
...the XMP tab that the Browser has to Edit>Properties.
And maybe do it for the WinNT builds before XnView sees it's 2.0th birthday, too?

Re: Let's finally bring...
Pierre, I've mentioned this before. Désolé si je vous laissé confusé.
A typical Properties window from a single-image view:
The same image, same folder, selected in the Browser:
You wouldn't know that JPEG file had any XMP data embedded in it if you didn't go into the browser. IMO that step is unnecessary: with an XMP tab in Properties, of similar behaviour to the EXIF tab as already written (ie, present when there's data to show, absent when there's none), waiting for a half-dozen, dozen, several dozen or several hundred thumbnails to be created -- when all you want to know is if file X.jpg has XML/XMP -- would no longer be necessary.
(Sorry for the full-sized linked pics. I'm so seldom in my Photobucket account I always forget which BBcode to copy. Double apologies for my atrocious franglaise.)

Okay. It's taken me nearly a year to reply.xnview wrote:But here it's a screenshot of XnView 1.97 not XnViewMP?
XnViewMP 0.34 Win32's browser:
And where "Properties" would be in the Edit menu of XnView 1.97, XnViewMP 0.34 Win32 has "Set comment" instead. Unless "Properties" has been added to Edit -- or some other menu -- in more recent MP builds, you could include the XMP tab in the Properties window when you make that window.

Whether there is or isn't makes no difference -- there's no tab to display it.JohnFredC wrote:Perhaps there is no XMP data for the image...?Why isn't there an XMP tab in the Properties dialog?
Quoting myself from 26/8/2010:
You can always see for yourself, too. Browse for a picture in a folder that does have XMP data embedded, open it, and hit Alt-Enter. Do you see an XMP tab?You wouldn't know that JPEG file had any XMP data embedded in it if you didn't go into the browser.

Works OK with XnViewMP 0.39 on windows XP.
You have to have XMP data embedded in the image,
else there is no XMP propertie-tab

Thank you rra ... so the "toggle switch" is the same as for the EXIF and IPTC tabs then? It won't display what it doesn't "see"?
I'll give it a try by viewing one example file with XMP written into it in both builds (Win32 and MP in Linux) and prove it to myself. If anything's amiss, you can be sure I'll post back here with the details.

Re: XMP Tab in browser - Let's finally bring...
In the last two years, but likely not as many versions, I've opened countless JPEG files in the Viewer to which I have, myself, written XMP data. For how many of them did I see an XMP tab in the Properties window? Not a single one.
It can't be that difficult to add one. I'm not asking for a re-formatting of the Browser XMP tab along the lines of the one in XnView MP (about which I also have a thread).
As I may have mentioned already in this thread, many prefer the Viewer to the Browser, the first reason being that it takes longer for the Browser to load a directory full of images than it takes to click the File menu, then Open, to access a single image. Should one have to wait, for the privilege of seeing the XMP in a file one knows has it, for all the other pictures in C:\Pictures\foo to load in thumbnail along with it?
Meanwhile, over in IrfanLand, there are still issues with custom characters edited in by first looking them up in Character Map, and seeing XP labels in Information>EXIF Info isn't as reliable as it could be. And IrfanView is Windows only, barring emulation. So nothing's perfect anywhere.
Thanks BTW for finally moving Browse down in the File menu. Raising my left mouse button that half-second too soon when I wanted Reopen, and ending up with a Browser window in front of me was more than annoying.
