I wonder if there is prefetching with MP? I am having some issues with it:
When scrolling though a folder (does not matter if thumbnails have been generated or not), the generation or displaying of thumbnails takes long. It seems that there is no prefetching?
It would be better if there was a prefetching option that generate the thumbnails in advance like for 20+ rows, so scrolling would be smoother without waiting for thumbnails.
But there seems to bo another prefetching issue. Depending on the file size it takes some time until it is possible to process a file. A video with a couple of hundres MB when I click it, MP halts, does not respond for some 10+ seconds. After that I can process the file and play it or delete it or whatever.
The time MP halts depends on the filesize. For me it looks that it is loading the file into memory as soon as I click the thumbnail. However this prevents effective usage. When I want to delete a file or change category (or anything that does not require to play the file) then I have to wait until MP is done.
It would be good to be able to turn this off.

Re: Prefetching
Pre-fetching would be very helpful.
I would like to see the hidden option NoDelayedPreview=1 added to the MP version of XnView as it is in the normal windows version.
It has been included, secretly apparently, since 2008. I tried to add the option to the 64bit MP version on linux, but it did not affect anything.
The hidden option NoDelayedPreview=1 was added and mentioned in this post.

Re: Prefetching
Ok, if you not 'create for whole folder', only the viewed thumbnails are created. But if enable, the thumbnails starting current position will be created...soulky wrote:Happens with both settings.xnview wrote:Do you use Thumbnail>Create for while folder?

This is why I suggest to prefetch more than the viewed thumbnails to make scrolling smoother.xnview wrote:only the viewed thumbnails are created.soulky wrote:Happens with both settings.xnview wrote:Do you use Thumbnail>Create for while folder?
