I have installed XnViewMP 0.89 on my Windows 10 Pro with latest updates and cannot choose it as default because XnViewMP is not in the list of available applications.
Could you please add some features to XnViewMP that will make it registered in Windows 10 Settings app and then it could be possible to choose XnViewMP as default Photo application. I know there was possibility to make it default from old Control Panel but Microsoft removed it from latest Windows 10.
Screenshot of what Windows 10 offers me to choose from (screenshot from machine with installed XnViewMP):

You can do it with "Set defaults by app" but it takes more time.

Re: Integration as default Photo application in Windows 10
Of course i can, but in older windows 10 versions. Now there is no such thing anymore. Only native Windows Settings app with same dialog as i posted above on screenshot.
I've tried few programs with built-in integration, it is awesome - just few clicks and app is the default one on Windows 10.
That is actually what i suggest to implement: feature to register XnviewMP in Windows 10 Settings as default app.

It appears that if application is trying to associate itself with graphics files it will appear in the list of default programs. That's why the application for associating files with XnView MP shown there. And classic XnView is present on the list since the association mechanism is built in the program itself. Maybe that will help.

I've found a very simple way:
1. start XnViewMP once as administrator
2. go to tools > settings > integration and click on set file associations
You will get Windows-message telling you that you need to use the Windows-settings to do this.
And: NOW any user on this PC can set XnViewMP as standard app for photo-viewing.
Hope that helps.

This works fine for "one-off" installs. Not on a network.xnview wrote: ↑Tue May 15, 2018 3:06 pmyes, good workaround. I don't understand when Windows 10 add an app in the menu for default photo appAlt68er wrote: ↑Sat Apr 28, 2018 5:52 pm I've found a very simple way:

Re: Integration as default Photo application in Windows 10
Question arises here.
Windows 10 file assocaition screen tells you a generic term as "photos" but then how can we change individual extentions for different image types?
Eg: Open jpg files with XnView but open png files with another app. How can this be possible?
Edit: Found out.
