Keywords with unicode characters

Hello,

I have a *.jpg file that contains IPTC keywords and also XMP keywords.
The keywords also contain unicode characters: e.g. German umlauts and e.g. chinese characters.
Then I change these keywords with XnViewMP version 0.53 ( on my windows XP system) with editor mode "only IPTC".
Now the IPTC keywords are stored properly, BUT the XMP keywords are also changed and the unicode characters (in my case German umlauts) are ruined. One umlaut became 2 "strange" characters.

On the other hand categories were newly introduced with names of the "ruined" keywords.
I suggest that the problem occurs only for characters that are not ASCII characters (value > 127) but are also contained within the codepage of the windows system (value < 256).

Hello Pierre,

I took a *.jpg image which did not contain any IPTC and XMP metadata.
Then I prepared this image with metadata: In xmp-dc:subject and iptc:keywords it contains 3 words - Fotografien, Vögel and 山山 -
a word with only ASCII-characters, a word with ASCII-characters and a German umlaut and a word with 2 chinese characters.
By the way: I prepared the file with XnViewMP.

Now I re-opened XnViewMP, selected the image file, changed in "edit iptc" -> options the editor mode to "IPTC only".
The (above mentioned) keywords were displayed properly and then I pressed "save".

Now in xmp-dc:subject all non ASCII-charactres are chnged to unreadable characters.
