Backwards selection deselects the file prior to jumping on the upper line.
Selecting e.jpg, then with the left arrow while keeping Shift pressed selecting d.jpg then c.jpg, will unselect d.jpg.
(the title says 0.60 but it's in 0.61 as well)

Re: 0.61 simple UI bug
The same thing happens in v0.61 on linux mint 15 cinnamon 32bit.
It seams to have something to do with "line wrapping" (the transision from bottom to top row),
and only if one starts selecting to the left (shift + left arrow).
During every transision from a bottom to top row,
the left most item on the bottom row gets deselected, (as blitz4 described)
but if one continues selecting to the left on the top row,
then the left most item on the bottom row gets selected again.
With the current selection, if one now changes direction and starts selecting to the right (shift + right arrow),
then during the transision from top to bottom row the right most item on the top row stays selected until
one presses shift + right arrow once more.
If one starts a new selection and selects to the right, up or down with shift held down,
then there seams to be no problem transisioning between rows.
