In a post for the German translation, Herb made two suggestions. (Thank you, Herb!) Both suggestions affect all languages, therefore I repost herb's suggestions here:

Face tag: Warning message
Currently, when writing a face tage, a warning message appears saying that face tags exist which are overwritten. This message should only be displayed if there are really face tages in the image, already. See my post in topic Face tag plugin : Warning message

EXIF tags: "Original"
"Original" >
"Orientation"
XnViewMP_origin.jpg

Code: Select all

    <message>
        <location filename="InfoPropertiesView.cpp" line="135"/>
        <source>Origin</source>
        <translation>Original</translation>
    </message>
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Judging from Pierre's comment, this has nothing to do with EXIF but with how the image data is stored in the file: “Origin” as in coordinate system (German: “Ursprung”).

However, this is not necessarily the case. In Windows, device-independent bitmaps (DIBs) can be placed in memory in two different orientations, bottom-up and top-down.

May I summarize: English text "Origin" is correct and must not be changed. But German translation "Original" is wrong and is supposed to be changed to "Ursprung".
(Please holler if my summary is wrong.)

Yes. At least, that's my interpretation of Pierre's comment.

O.k., I didn't know. Rethoric question: How can a new XnView version have an up-to-date and complete translation if translation is done afterwards?

  • Show files in subfolder > Show files in subfolders
  • Auto image size > Auto zoom
  • Real Size > I don't know! But this label has been confusing people since at least 2008!! The forum is filled with discussions about it. There must be something better to convey it's a calculation of screen and image DPI?
  • Rating and colour label > Rating and color label .... 'color' is used everywhere else?
  • Logarithmic lut > Logarithmic LUT
  • Conbright / Gammasat > confusing made up words!! Is this needed when 'Enhance colors' can do the same and more?
  • Rotate - for Browser it's 'Rotate counter clockwise', for Viewer it's '90` left'. Change both to 'Rotate left' and 'Rotate right'?
