For tablets, at least a tree + thumb panel + preview. For me that is the most efficient way of managing my images.
For now I use QuickPic because it is fast and convenient for quickly viewing images, but its UI for file management is hopeless. So, for managing photos I currently have X-Plore which is excellent in most respects except, of course, no simultaneous thumbs and preview.
It's a lot of development work, for sure, but Android dominates these days and will for the foreseeable future. Any XnView image management development in that arena, however tentative, will pay off in the long run.

I think to make a version for Android, but don't know yet if it's better to make XnViewFX, or an image management...
Could you please, tell me which features are needed??

For an Android "XnViewMP" version, for me the most interesting thing is to be able to view (so mostly a Viewer function in full screen) a network album with the same DBs of the classic XnViewMP version (so from the network via WiFi (with app. like "AndSMB" ) or from a local micro-sd-card) ... so mostly in full screen mode due to the smalls screens , so maybe at the beginning with, a slide show functionality, zoom functionality, ...
See here too:
"XnView MP can work on a LAN with multiple users simultaneously accessing the same data store". (see here M.Th. post)

IMO it is not necessary to overly emphasize designing the UI for small (aka phone-) sized devices. Think tablets! Think tablets! An "XnView" for Android would fill a huge gap in the marketplace just by including basic image tasks combined with flexibility in regard to Browser layout. That last part is key.xnview wrote:Could you please, tell me which features are needed??
AFAIK, no other Android app has the following sort of UI architecture:
- 0. Simultaneous view of panels: folder tree, thumbs, view, info
- The most-used layout for me would be: tree, thumbs, view. But other workflows might need view, info only (for instance) or just view.
- Swipe-in from an edge to display a panel in split screen with the previous panel(s). Each edge (top, bottom, left, right) would "contain" a single panel, user would decide which edge <-> which panel in twoorientations: portrait, landscape.
2. Touch Navigation via folder tree
3. View synchronized with selection in thumbs- Display Hidden Preview | Zoom preview
- 4. Single/Multiple Select
5. Save As/Copy To/Move To- With Favorites/History
7. Rename / MultiRename- With Favorites/History
- With Favorites/History
10. Export As
11. Gamma/Brightness/Contrast
12. Open with | Share To- With Favorites/History

2. Touch Navigation via folder treexnview wrote:what do you means?JohnFredC wrote: 2. Touch Navigation via folder tree
3. View synchronized with selection in thumbs[/list]
- Display Hidden Preview | Zoom preview
The same behaviors which characterize the XnView desktop browser should pertain to the "apad" browser also:
Selecting (touching) a folder in tree will display its contents in thumbs. Selecting (touching) a folder thumb in thumbs (if user option to display folders in thumbs is true) highlights the corresponding folder in tree.
3. View synchronized with selection in thumbs
- Display Hidden Preview | Zoom preview
In view or info, if user swipes to next or previous image, selection in thumbs moves to correspond, even if thumbs is not visible.
Other things:
When the display is tiled with more than one panel (thumbs, view for instance), double tap on a panel zooms that panel full-screen. A second double tab restores it.
Tree must show hierarchical folder tree with collapsible/expandable nodes, not the commonly used flattened "tree".
Touch and hold on a panel displays a popup tool panel appropriate for the panel. I like the idea of a popup circular tool panel centered on the finger tip with tool icons at different points of the compass.
No chrome!!!!
