Searched for something similar and found nothing.
I am running Windows 7 x64
I have a NAS that contains my photo archive.
I have created a Directory Symbolic Link with mklink to the photo archive on my NAS drive.
mklink /d photos \\MyNASServer\Photos
I have read write access to the folder on the NAS drive.
When I double click a jpg image from Explorer XnView MP v0.68 launches and I get the error dialog box "File can't be loaded!"
I get the same error if I use File Open from XnView MP v0.68.
If I map the NAS folder to a drive letter, double click from explorer and file open work fine.
net use N: \MyNASServer\Photos
I prefer the mklink to directory mapping. Why doesn't XnView MP v0.68 like this? Or rather, what is it about this type of connection that is causing XnView MP problems?
MP 0.68 -- Won't load JPG from NAS directory.

Why don't you use directly: \\MyNASServer\Photos and add it to the Favorites?
I don't know your configuration, but here and there, and also on other forums were enough reports with such things WRT Apple's network problems (dropping connections etc.) and/or some other devices.
I don't say that the problem is necessarily outside of XnView but we use the program on a Windows LAN from enough years now, without problems. Hence I think that the problem is tied to the symbolic link specifically.

Thanks. That is what I meant to convey, I am certain the problem is tied to the symbolic link. All tests show that the LAN connection, permissions and the symbolic link work fine. I open multiple file types through the symbolic link with many other applications. XnView is the only application with which I have experienced a problem opening a file from a path that contains a symbolic link. Ideally the application should not even know there is symbolic link involved. The OS should make that transparent to the application. However, I am sure MS did not get that perfect.m.Th. wrote:I don't say that the problem is necessarily outside of XnView but we use the program on a Windows LAN from enough years now, without problems. "Favorites" doesn't do what exactly what I want and introduces it's own problems. The NAS is on my home network, and the laptop I use primarily is for work. So I am back on forth on different networks every work day. I placed the directory symbolic link under my documents folder. If I never navigate to that folder, then no network access is attempted, which doesn't slow me down at work.
