Ubuntu 14.04 LTS troubles

Post by trodas » Tue Sep 16, 2014 9:02 pm

Todays I, in search of ACDSee v3 replacement for Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS), I tried the XnView. To me, it looks (I was unable to install the recommended gThumb, because it simply fail to work with Unity (default distro), so...

And I sadly have a bugreport. I would like the Esc = once for all QUIT option to work. And it worked for me the first time I set it, and since them it fail to work anymore. At first, I downloaded the wrong archive ( Linux TGZ 32bit ):
http://www.xnview.com/en/xnviewmp/#downloads
...yet it still worked (no install, lol) ... then I get the correct one ( Linux DEB 32bit ), installed it and it worked well, except for this option, that once worked for me, but after I changed the option of how the cycling of the view thumbnails - fullscreen - view thumbnails screens go. And since this time, it never worked again for me.

Also I wonder, why in the software depository of Ubuntu I cannot find this nice program, because except for a slight error somewhere it does it's job well

Thanks a lot, my friend really need something fairly simple to be able to cut, resize and save his jpegs on Ubuntu Unity system

I think I can. But that would just kill all my settings, when I finally get rid of most of the windows and stuff... While I believe that this is simply a bug, that use the Esc as only go from fullscreen to the editing preview and then clear the preview and did not show a thing and one can hit Esc as much, as he want. No exit. Ever. I try it later... :?

It should not be hard to add just the list of the previews - fullscreen - list of the previews behaviour, should it?

Using ACDSee like that for yers and it is great:

When one want to edit the picture, then right mouse and edit or hit enter... BTW is possible to configure also space as "next picture" button, not only the right arrow?

IIUC, you say that ESC doesn't work when you try to exit from XnView MP.

In

Tools | Settings | Interface | Keyboard - Pressing ESC once quits XnView MP

What value do you have?

Yes, you can configure to have 'Space' as shortcut for the Next File. Go to Tools | Settings | Interface | Shortcuts and there find the 'Next File' command. Beware there are two modes "Browse" and "View" - perhaps you will want to assign for both.

...btw, for "full-screen previews" you can just disable the panes and the toolbars which you don't want from menu View | Data Pane and View | Info Pane. Also you have in View the Hide Title Bar and Full Screen mode which have a strip of thumbs above.

Hi there, sorry for the delay, I was kind of turned off so badly that when something once worked, but no longer after I customize my prefs, then...

Yes.
In - Tools | Settings | Interface | Keyboard - Pressing ESC once quits XnView MP
What value do you have?
In czech it says "Vždy", witch means always in plain english. Other options are "Never" and "Only on fullscreen."
Tried the "Only on fullscreen" and it "quit" only to the images thumbnails view. No full exit.
Subrequentional pressing do nothing.

Changing to "Always" result in the very same behaviour, EXCEPT when I'm the thumbnails view, then another Esc press in desperation TO GET THE EXIT does close the thumbnails view list:

That it is.

True, changed. Thanks for the hint. Now time to try the new version...

...and the behaviour is exactly the same. Okay, time to look for the cursed *.ini file... the searching is kinda long, makes one wonder, how much files Ubuntu have. My quess is "way too much" :( Still nothing found, NTB HDD is probably not very quick, but this is a bit overkill...

New version - 0.69 = much better!
Still, no matter what I do, there is no single Esc = exit, BUT double Esc produce exit, with is almost perfect. Now if it just remember the windows position, then it will be a really good move :)

Always get on start:
