On Windows 7 specifically, and possibly other versions, there is something called libraries. They allow users to combine whatever folders (i.e., directories) from the file system that a user chooses to associate with a single (Library) name. Strangely it seems that the XnViewMP browser includes the libraries but omits the folders (i.e., file system directories) that are specified to make up the library and then includes the folders contained within those omitted folders. This ends up removing the hierarchy that belongs to those folders and makes using libraries rather awkward. In that, it would be better if libraries were simply omitted but it would be great if XnViewMP could include them properly.
