In the Folders panel and the Category Filters panel, and possibly other panels as well, when an item in the list is already selected, and you click on it again, the item enters rename mode, and you need to manually escape out of that. I know that this is how clicking on selected items works in Explorer. But in the context of a multipanel program like XnView, I am finding this extremely frustrating, as often I will click on items that are already selected not because I want to rename them, but to refocus the panel. And so I am always having to escape out of rename mode. I know there are other ways of focusing, but clicking on an item when your hand is already on the mouse is convenient, except when it causes a rename box to either open in the tree or pop up in the middle of the screen. A few times, I accidentally changed the name of a folder because I had typed a key before seeing that I was in rename mode.
This does not happen with the Categories panel or the Favorites panel, even though it does with Folders and Cat Filters, so it seems possible to prevent triggering rename mode.
Again, I know Explorer works this way under some circumstances, and I otherwise like the ways XnView is similar to Explorer, but am I the only one who experiences this as being "off" in some way?

Re: Clicking on selected item enters "rename" mode
No, you're not the only one who finds this behaviour disturbing and unexpected. I've just tried in Explorer in Windows 10 and to me it looks as if Microsoft no longer supports this "a second click and wait" behaviour to rename a folder. It might well be because this behaviour was disturbing and unexpected - just like in XnView MP, now.
Problem in XnView MP is that when selecting a folder in the folder tree and then defocusing and focusing the same folder by clicking on the selected folder, again, the rename mode starts. This is different to XnView Classic: In XnView Classic, rename mode starts only if you click on a folder that was both selected and focused before - not when clicking on a folder that is selected and hasn't got the focus, yet. From my point of view the current behaviour of XnView MP is a bug.

EDIT: I'll add a screen video which shows the problem, tonight.

Re: Clicking on selected item enters "rename" mode
Here's a screencast (screen video) which shows the difference between XnView Classic (first) and XnView MP (second):
Broken rename on second click
Broken rename on second click
Placing a bug report for the QT toolkit might be a good idea. The way it is now is not good at all and confusing and irritating to user and I think the "rename second on click" functionality should be disabled until this bug has been fixed.
