There Must Be A Keystroke - Expand and Shrink the Browser Tree

Post by arnold_jordan »

When in Browser, seeing a folder with many subdirectories, is there a keystroke or command to use to expand the tree or shrink the tree?

Currently, I must mouse up the tree, clicking every arrow point to expand the folders.

There is the menu "View > Panels > Show source panels" for displaying and hiding the panel including "Folder tree". By default, no short cut is assigned but you can add a short cut easily:
1. Tools > Settings | Interface | Shortcuts
2. In drop down list select "Browser mode" (should be selected by default)
3. In list of commands scroll down to "Show source panels" command
4. Select list entry "Show source panels".
5. In panel "Short cut for selected action" select "Custom" and then press the desired short cut/key combination.
6. Confirm settings with "OK" button.

Thanks, but apparently, that is not the issue.

I already have 'View Source Panels' checked. The directory icons appear as thumbnails & icons, folder icon only.

In the directory tree, however, I have the directories listed by name with a little arrow to the left, indicating more directories within.

One thing, the tree auto expands somewhat automatically, but never to the last level. There is always one more level of folders within that have to be expanded manually.

Looking for a way to make the tree expand to that last level without so many clicks on arrows.

Ah, I see now that I completely misunderstood your request - sorry for that.

FAIK, when browsing a folder with many subdirectories in XnView, there is no way to expand or shrink the complete folder sub tree of this folder.

In the folder tree of XnView you can use cursor keys to navigate in the folder tree. With "Cursor right" you will open/expand the current folder and with another cursor right you navigate down to the subfolders. But I assume you knew this before.

EDIT: I've just learnt that in 'Windows Explorer there are NumPad "*" and NumPad "+" for expanding a complete drive or folder and it's subfolders. I have a TKL keyboard (without Numpad) so hard to test. ;)

Thank you very much! I am on a Macbook Pro, so don't have a numpad either. It is difficult to write a one-size-fits-everyone application across platforms. No complaints!
