once again, on a mac os 12.3 tagging/rating images/colour labbeling wont work. no matter how I try (marking with a mouse or a keyboard)
i cannot choose the best images form the folder full of images, which pretty much makes this program useless, this is a core functionality, which is missing
pls. see here: marked image (red star upper right), then a a folder view again: nothing is marked!
also, under file/rating the options are grey, is it correct or is smth wrong here?

i understand the problem. To use tag/rating/labeling, you have 2 solutions
- Write information into embedded metadata or sidecar
- Write information in the catalog
Your settings show me that the 2 solutions are disabled...

maybe its better to inform user that certain functionality (tag, label, rating) is not available anymore, via:
maybe its better to inform user that certain functionality (tag, label, rating) is not available anymore, via:
- disabling controls (cannot be applied here as browser mode still has to show existing rating/lables)
- adding another popup message (show it each time user tries to set tag/rating/label)
"Tag, Rating, Label cannot be stored due to the following disabled Settings:
- Write information into embedded metadata or sidecar
- Write information in the catalog"

Re: How to add a checkmark tag in image view?
Pierre, many thanks!
I dont use the catalogue system, thats correct.
As far as the second information is concerned, i do not use the side car either, because this can be unreliable with different photo agencies, only IPTC is dead safe.
I thought the iptc standard information, being a metadata, gets always embedded into an image? I would not like to mess around with the IPTC setting, since that had caused troubles with my agency in the past.
Maybe you could be so kind and specify what exactly meta data settings should I use, to be able to mark the images AND not to change the IPTC standard into a side car standard.

So you don't want to touch embedded metadata or sidecar, and be able to rate/tag image files, right?
