I am having problems assigning categories to photos and also removing categories from photos. I recently got a new computer and my photos database (not the XmView database) is now via external USB drive so I am not sure if that is the issue.
Examples: If I use the category drop down menu in browser mode, I can add a category to a photo and it will show in the meta data. BUT, it will not reflect in the categories window on the info/preview/categories area. Strange. Nor will is show in the category sets area.

As of now, I have not found a method of removing any category assignment. Checking or unchecking does nothing, in part because nothing shows the assignment for new categories and for those photos that previously given an assignment, unchecking in the categories or category sets window does not remove the category or metadata. I am pretty sure that this was functioning previously but do not know what has changed since then. I have not made any settings changes. Unfortunately, my old computer is dead and I cannot go back to it to verify this. The XnView database (the entire system really) was transferred directly from my old computer so the database is the same.
Any thoughts would be appreciated as to what the issue may be.
I am currently running a MacBook pro M1 with Monterey 12.6.1 and XnView 1.4.0 but checked with ver. 1.0.1 and it was acting the same. As I mentioned, the photo database is via usb external now (although it is the exact same hard drive as before - just mounted via usb).
