Copying and Pasting Metadata between Files

Post by tuehuyen111327 »

Greetings,

Can someone please explain to me the purpose of "Tools > metadata > transfer"? I don't see any actual transfer happening, just metadata being written.

I really miss a feature that would allow me to copy metadata from one image and paste it into one or more other images. I was hoping to find this functionality with the transfer command, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

I suggest implementing a new feature called "Paste metadata," which would allow users to copy all or part of the metadata from one image and paste it into another image or multiple images.

Thank you for listening.

I really miss a feature that would allow me to copy metadata from one image and paste it into one or more other images.
The method depends on the metadata you want to copy, the type of file (jpg only?), the number of target files and how often you need to copy.

1) One shot: you want to copy all the metadata (exif + iptc+xmp+ ...) into a single target jpg file.
- Double-click on the source file to open it in view mode and also open the target file.
- Copy the target file displayed and paste it into the source file. "Save as" with the name of the target file.

2) Copy only iptc and xmp metadata from one file to a set of target files
Select target files in the browser , and the source file (with Ctrl key)
Open "edit iptc", and set your own paremeters in "Options" tab
Use < or > button to preview source file and it's metadata. Click "Write all"

3) Transfer
Transfer is intended to write some fixed metadata in a set of files, or copy a metadata into another one for each photo.
Ex :
Select some photos . Tools>Metadata>Transfer> "Add" Iptc >Headline ... Happy birthday (Selected pictures will get Happy birthday as a Title )
or
Select some photos . Tools>Metadata>Transfer> "Add" Iptc >Caption ... {IPTC:Headline} (Copy Headline into Caption for selected pictures)

4) Often copy some metadata from one file into a set of files.
Study ExifTool features   , perhaps "tagsfromfile" and see this post : How to use ExifTool

how about templates?
1. open source file in Viewer or Browser
2. goto Edit IPTC / XMP
- save template via Save template.. button
guess you can manually edit template file, eg remove unwanted stuff
3. open Browser mode
4. select target file(s)
5. goto Edit IPTC / XMP
- load template
- write to all files

"transver" is cool
"templates" as well

but:

I/we still looking forward to get a metadata option "requiered metadata field" that would show you where and what do edit...
Sometimes it feels like "looking for a needle in the haystack" or "have I've done all metadata?"

If pos, it could pop up / marked in templates, batch converter etc. where metadata has to be setup...

What you think and how do you get this done?

:D Gerald says thx to all! :D
