Hi
I have xnview mp to output xmp data and occasionaly delete and refresh the catalogue form the image xmp data.
A feature that catches me out here and there is :
save image to directory currently viewed in browser - image is currently selected
update category in category pane
assigned value appears (not bold)
switch context to another image then switch back to original image
assigned value is emboldened
BUT data is not yet written out to xmp data
can move away and back but still does not get written out
only written out if update another category and then move away
But if :
save image to directory currently viewed in browser - image is currently selected
move away from image and back again
update category in category pane
assigned value appears (not bold)
switch context to another image then switch back to original image
assigned value is emboldened
xmp data written out as expected

Re: Writing out XMP data 'feature'
Hi Pierre,
After deselecting image and reselecting image. There is no XMP data written out. Though assigned value shows bold.
Can get it to update by assigning/deassigning keyword and deselecting image.
NB only happens when image is moved into displayed directory when it is automatically selected and then keywords are assigned

Re: Writing out XMP data 'feature'
how to reproduce.
You start XnView in a folder, copy a file in windows explorer in current folder, selected file is changed, select category (category panel), change file, and go back?

Re: Writing out XMP data 'feature'
Hi Pierre,
That's it precisely - though I am saving image to folder from firefox. On my Ubuntu linux system using XnView MP 1.6.2 that does not result in the XMP data being written out - at least as seen in the XMP info display.
Whereas, start XnView in a folder, copy a file in windows explorer in current folder, selected file is changed, change file, go back, select category (category panel), change file, and go back works as expected.

Re: Writing out XMP data 'feature'
Hi Pierre,
Yes the file is jpg. Note that provided I deselect the file and reselect it before updating the category everything works hunky dory.
I presume you ask because some image formats don't support xmp data. In the past I scratched my head a long time after moving webp image files to my database and saving them as jpg files (after some alterations in xmp) and then found I could not update the xmp data!

Re: Writing out XMP data 'feature'
instead of saving from firefox, you copy a jpeg file in file explorer, same problem?

Yes. File is initially selected, update a category value, move away, move back, catalog shows value assiged but XMP data not yet written out.

NB Simple work around is to initially deselect the file then reselect and everything is tickety-boo.
