Fit to window view

Post by pulancho »

I am using Win11. I cannot find a quick, easy way when viewing an image after pressing the 1:1 button to return to the fit to window view. At the top these are the only buttons. I would expect one more button that would return to fit to window view.

In the View menu I found Auto image size and it indicates that the / key is the shortcut. The only way I can go back to fit to window is to go into this menu and select that option. Having a fourth button would be best and easiest.

Actually, even better, it would be nice to click on the image and it enlarge to 1:1 and click again on the image to go back to fit to window. Very fast and easy.

Have I just missed something?

In the comparison view there are 4 buttons and one of them is a fit to window button. It would be good if the same fit to window button was on the single image view. Also, the third button on the comparison view should have 1:1, as it does on the single image view. And to be further consistent the ordering of the buttons should be the same in both cases.

The single image view at 1:1 and the comparison view at 1:1 behave differently if you want to move the image around. With the comparison view you click and hold on the image and move the linked images. But with the single image view one must use the tiny full image view in the lower right corner and move the box around. I like the way it works in the comparison view much better, i.e., click on image, hold, and move.

Thank you for that suggestion.

I spent a long time reading the sparse documentation trying to find how to add a new button to the toolbar:

https://www.xnview.com/wiki/index.php?t ... User_Guide

I could not find anything so I spent time playing around with the program trying to find a way to do it.

I found in Settings a ToolBar item, but it is in Browser section, not in the View section. It does not seem to allow me to add a button to the View toolbar:

Then after a considerable additional amount of time I discovered that by right-clicking on the View window ToolBar this menu comes up:

Great! So I selected Customize toolbar. I then found in the right list the Fit image to window item and moved it over to the left list.

Strangely, although in the Comparison view it has an icon for a button, in the View screen it has a long button with the name instead.

A strange inconsistency.

It's in Settings>Interface>Toolbar. I'll fix the icon for 'Fit image to window'

guess you are talking about icon used for 'Best fit' command (eg in Compare):
min_bestfit.png

Since 'Best fit' command is equal to 'Fit image to window, large only',
this icon cannot be used for 'Best fit' and 'Fit image to window' commands at the same time.
Moreover, the icon itself doesn't seem to me to mean 'Best Fit', but looks like 'Fit image to window'.

So, I would either:
- leave as is until new icons are introduced (doubt each mode need an icon though) OR
- assign min_bestfit.png to 'Fit image to window, large only'

Thank you for the reply. I will check that.

I am sorry to be late, but I have been traveling with both international and domestic flights recently.
