Multilayer EXR thumbnail support?

Post by needtosee »

Hello,

I come from a 3D generalist that uses Blender and I'm in need of an Adobe Bridge replacement. So I'm looking into using XnViewMP as a FOSS alternative.

I render all my images with EXR format and I like how XnViewMP shows images in the folder icon in its thumbnail displays. However, this doesn't seem to work for EXR files as mine show up as black. Would anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT: I discovered after fiddling around that EXR is supported, but it appears that Multilayer EXR view is not...

Same issue here. I tried with a screenshot taken using the Nvidia Ansel utility but I couldn't attach it either. Then I tried by compressing it in .zip and .rar formats but it is too large to attach.

Came across this post looking for a way to check different EXR layers in XnView.

My multi-layer EXR images show up fine in the thumbnails, but XnView probably expects channels R G B A to exist in the file (and to be the layer to be displayed). My images where rendered with ToonBoom Harmony, but Blender might not follow the convention of filling in the R G B A channels. What does your EXR metadata look like ?

I have not found a way of looking at my other layers directly in XnView (though I can check the layers metadata in the ExifTool tab), so I open the image in Krita for further inspection.
