Inconsistent behavior

Post by rsbrux »

There are several inconsistent behaviors that I am encountering in XnViewMP under Windows 10:
  1. If I open a JPG or video file directly (i.e. with "open with" from the Windows context menu, or by double-clicking it), it opens in something resembling "View mode - Full screen", but without toolbar. If I then press F11 the window closes, instead of going to the normal view mode display. How can I get these files to open in normal view mode (including title, menu and toolbars), without first opening XnView in browser mode?
  2. If I already have the XnView browser open and I open a picture or video file directly as described above, pressing ESC closes the XnView browser as well as the view window, even though I have only "Pressing ESC closes - Viewer" and not "- Browser selected in "Tools - Settings - Interface - Keyboard". How can I prevent ESC from *ever* closing the XnView browser?.
  3. If I click on a video in the XnView browser, it opens as a preview in the lower left panel and the video plays with the corresponding audio. If I double-click on the same video, it displays in view mode, but no audio plays. If I open a video file directly (see item 1 above) the video plays in full screen, but also without audio. In full screen or view mode, there is a small speaker icon at the lower left, but clicking on it has no effect. How can I *always* have videos accompanied by the corresponding audio?

Thanks for responding.

I fixed item 1 by selecting "Viewer" from the dropdown list by "Open" in "Tools - Settings - General - Startup". I wasn't even seeing the "General" settings, because I didn't realize that I needed to scroll up. When I opened "Settings", it automatically scrolled to the bottom, so I didn't see anything before "Interface" unless I scrolled up. I have now resized the settings dialog to display everything.

Pressing ESC didn't result in a quit confirmation dialog as described in viewtopic.php?f=95&t=46341. Everything just closed. However, Disabling "Interface > Tabs > Closing last tab exits application" in Settings keeps the browser from closing when I close the window opened by trying to view a picture or video directly. Many thanks for the helpful tip!

That only leaves the problem with the audio. It occurs with both MP4 videos from my Samsung smartphone and MOV videos from my wife's iPhone.

P.S. The audio problem is even less consistent than I originally reported: clicking (once) on a video in the browser always plys the audio, but doesn't always display the preview in the lower left. Sometimes all I see in the lower left is the properties list.
