Is there an "under the hood" way to change rating descriptors?

Post by KLE-France »

I have already expressed this subject as a suggestion for XnView MP.

Like in that link, I'll use "descriptor" here, instead of "label," to avoid confusion with the color label function

The star-based "Rating" function in XNView MP uses the following words to describe (hence "descriptors") what each value represents:

5-star "Excellent"
4-star "Good"
3-star "Average"
2-star "Fair"
1-star "Poor"

There is currently no choice for changing those descriptors in the settings, as can be done with e.g., the color labels.

⇒ Is there a way to do this "under the hood?"

For example, perhaps there's an .ini file or some other type of file (or files) in the folder structure where I could manually change the wording myself (without programming software)? I've poked around in the XnView-related folders in my system, but have not stumbled upon such a file(s) myself.

I'm on a Windows 10 Home system, assuming that might have some importance.

Thanks in advance, and of course see the link above for this same thing as a request for XnView MP.

the only way is to create a new language file, and you change the translation for these

Hmmm, that might be a bit out of my league...

Thanks in any case for your response, and I'll pop in a link back to the suggestion for good form.
