Autoclose Viewer tab on doubleclick

A similar question was asked in 2017 at https://forum.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=34500 but I'm hoping things have changed since then.

Doubleclicking an image in the browser opens a new tab with that image. Doubleclicking that newly opened image returns to the browser tab with that image selected if you've used left/right to navigate.

Is there a way to autoclose that image tab on doubleclick and still have the most recently viewed image selected in the browser?

I'm currently making do with ctrl-w, but that returns me to the one I initially doubleclicked.
