ah, have not noticed that as well..
they definetly have to have the same functionality
need more mockups )

But would that be compatible with the rest of the menu?
'Fit ratio' might be considered as a 'placeholder' in this discussion...

I see what you mean, but cropping functionality is already there in both dialogs, just set dimentions lower than original and it also uses anchor position.

I played a little bit more with settings and think ACDSee's approach is quite handy.
Having WxH + Aspect Ratio (free, original, custom) on the same form at once allow user to set required AR, WxH will automatically extend to meet new AR, BUT if you need to crop, you can manually decrease W or H.

Adding a new option to Canvas resize if one is needed seems a good idea, but from the usability standpoint, clarity of operation, I think canvas resizing and cropping should be kept separate. However, if it only incidentally possible to also crop in a particular way, that would be acceptable, something 'known' but not 'advertised'.

But to be fair, I haven't studied any new interface you might be proposing.

I much doubt that Pierre will combine "AspectPad" and "Canvas resize" dialog very soon. So I wonder how to get the best out of the current situation. My suggestion is simple: Rename "AspectPad" dialog to "Canvas ratio" or "Canvas resize - aspect ratio" and that's it for now.

Adding an alpha option is necessary for recanvasing transparent PNGs to a certain aspect ratio.
