Options' descriptions

I think not only options, but also options tree should be seriuosly rearranged!

As 1.82 is round the corner, I think we can move this project after 1.82, if it is still relevant.

I've just moved the whole topic. We can copy it (or parts of it) back once there is a final version, but as long as it is under heavy construction, it should not be in FAQ section. I think you understand and agree.

I think a lot of explanation is required here. The actual action performed by XnView depends not only on these options, but also on relation of image size to XnView window, Browser window, Viewer window (if General->Use different postion... checked) and desktop size.

OK, so Pause works for starting/stopping QSS, but Space only displays next file in View/fullscreen View. Maybe some other setting interferes here?

OK. Only <pause> starts/stops slideshow in v.1.80.3. In older 1.8 versions, both worked. Now in beta1 there is an option for space to start/stop quick slideshow.

So I am puzzled now. You select this option. Then you go to fullscreen View mode. You single-click left/right mouse button and go to previous/next image?
Here single left click does nothing (click and hold changes pointer into 'panning hand'). Single right click displays context menu.
Either some other option interferes or I am doing something wrong.
BUT works in 1.82 alpha, so maybe it depends on some other setting...?

2 different uses of fullscreen in v.1.80.3 One you can edit, one you cannot. The editable one I refer to as viewer's fullscreen. The non-editable one I refer to as browser's fullscreen or browser+F11. Each behaves differently and can be difficult to document as I'm sure you have already found out. I'm not sure its necessary to document all the differences, since they could be temporary.

OK, so:
1. These options affect if Items shown in thumbnail mode/other modes can filter files, Use Colour can work, ie allow XnView to properly define file types, yes?

Different file types have predefined colors. These colors also appear in background of thumbnail filename.

2. If file is not recognized because of current settings, it is categorised as falling into "All other files" category, yes?

I'm not sure. But you can change font and background color of browser list using windows display settings.

3. Recognize...extension checked, Scan...headers- any setting = files are recognized only by extension, Scan...headers option has no effect (effectively files are never scanned OR are scanned as per setting but the scanning result has no effect as for determining file type?)

Scan headers also can work when recognize by extension is also checked. Recognize by extension displays certain files, then those files are scanned.

Onward to the questions:

Ignore read errors - Read errors during reading image are silently ignored. Are damaged images partially displayed?

I have seen partially downloaded images displayed. I'm not sure that is the same thing though.

Add XnView to Start menu - ???

Adds Xnview to start menu right above "programs".

High zoom quality - With this group box you can define operations, for which algorithms producing higher quality images are used. Options refer both to fullscreen and windowed View mode. true?

It only effects viewer in v.1.80.3

"Use embedded thumbnails" is also required for its associated icon to be displayed.

Hmm, every info icon is displayed if relevant info is present. So it seems obvious that if Use embedded thumbnails is not checked, info icon for it is not shown because, well, embedded thumbnail is not used.
Anyway, if you check Use embedded thumbnails, info icons for them are not shown for images with no embedded thumbnails.

Is it what you meant?

It is logical as you say, but it wasn't obvious to me at first. Maybe not worth mentioning.
