Yes, normal. XnView read header & thumbnails for all files
3. Afterwards I click "Move To", it can go to not responding for a while.
So the 'not responding' is before to display the 'Move to' dialog, right?

Yes, before the move to dialog.

But, I quit this sidejob today. So, am afraid I won't be able to help move this along unless I move back to it sometime in the future. I really appreciate your effort to understand the issue.

Its fixed in the latest version. XnView MP is much snappier even with interruptions to the thumbnail process and I can open galleries with 10s of thousands of images without it locking up. The move to function is also working without delays.
