After testing it. Not Always after 'Edit XMP>Write',sometimes it happens at second or third edit...Always after 'Edit XMP>Write', 'Preferences' becomes greyed??
Couldn't find the exact pattern to accurately reproduce but when changing between different drives and folders looks more prone to happen
