Sorry for the delay. I tested both versions 1.8.0 and 1.8.1 and had issues with both of them. At times the rendering froze in different positions too. Ex. I would open a few pictures and the left side would remain blank for a few seconds, then when I opened a different picture the bottom was blank until fully rendered.
I copied all images from my Desktop into a folder called "Test". I still had a visible delay, however, it was not a long of a delay.
I left all settings as default, only changing the viewer to resize image to Desktop. I opened images by clicking on them directly and through the browser.

Try to not change the 'auto zoom' setting?

Very strange. I did a fresh install of v1.8.3 and just kept all the default settings after starting the program. I opened the browser and opened several images from my Desktop that I have had the freezing issue with and they opened as expected. I am doing this remotely from work logged into my computer at home, but I don't notice any lag and there is no freezing.
I left the viewer auto zoom setting to the default "last used".

				I've tried:
- clean settings folder
- open in browser, change 'Settings>View>Fit image to desktop'
- close
- in a folder, i have your 02-11.jpg file, i open this file with XnView
- the file is opened quickly in image's tab

Strange. This is a clean version of Windows 11 24H2. I don't know what else could be causing the issue. I just updated my NVIDIA drivers yesterday too. I don't know anything else that could be causing the lag / delay.
I will try a completely fresh install again.

				maybe OneDrive is involved somehow
side notice - zoom level (in statusbar, enable it in Settings>Statusbar as well) shows 99% when it should be 100%,
for some images it changes to 100% when * pressed, for others it remains 99%
