XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
Hello,
I have been having a problem with pictures hanging and freezing while being rendered in the XnView viewer window. I had hoped that version 1.8.3 would resolve this but it hasn't. I didn't have this issue 2 versions ago but it seems like it started with the previous version.
After I upgraded today and saw that the issue remained, I completely uninstalled using Revo and deleted all files. I reinstalled XnView MP fresh and chose to save settings to ini file under user settings. After manually reconfiguring the settings to my preference the issue remained.
I deleted the ini settings file, opened a picture and after saving the settings again I still have the issue.
I uploaded a zip file containing the original test image. The test image is cover of The Exorcist movie. I am also including a screen shot of the viewer when it freezes and is trying to render the image, and a shot of the viewer after it finally opens the image. Including my complete XnView MP APPDATA folder as well.
Here is the link to my zip file on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c52pBq ... sp=sharing
Thank you!
-- EDIT -- Removed password from zip and re-uploaded. Updated link.

There is a password. You don't have this problem with 1.8.0?
If you start XnView in browser, do you have a delay?

Hello,
I apologize. I didn't mean to compress it with a password. I have removed it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c52pBq ... sp=sharing
Yes, I still have the freezing / lag when I open the XnView browser and open an image from File > Open.
Thank you.

Is it the good xnview.ini? in your screenshot, there is no visible tab, the one sent tabs are visible.

Hello,
The ini file that I sent is the new one that was created after doing a fresh installation. I have a copy of the old, original ini file that I created a few versions ago. Here is the link to my original file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t8wrW2 ... sp=sharing

No delay here...
If you start XnView in browser mode, no problem? Even when selecting an image file to show it in preview?
You have the delay even if you open an image file from XnView's browser?

Hello,
Yes, I have the same issue when I open an image through the browser. I thought it might have to do with resampling options but I'm not using the same ini file. I'm going to uninstall and double check all folders are deleted and retest.

Re: XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
I uninstalled, deleted all traces and rebooted. This time instead of choosing to save settings to an ini file, I chose to use the registry. It still does the same thing. No settings were modified or changed, only changed the theme to black and chose to save settings to the registry and resize image to Desktop. It seems to be the most noticeable when opening images that are on the Desktop. I don't know if that makes a difference.
Here is a video of me opening pictures directly from the Desktop: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AUZzK3 ... sp=sharing
I also attached my saved registry settings. Just remove the .jpg extension.

Re: XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
do you have same delay if you open from a folder with 2/3 files?
It seems that there is a file causing the delay, in xnview.ini, change debug=2, and check the logs window where you have the delay?

Re: XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
It seems that XnView did not respect my choice to save settings in the registry instead of the ini file.
I opened the settings and it had changed to the ini option. I opened the file and changed debug=2 but that seems to have made it worse?
I created a new folder on the Desktop and copied a couple of images into it. It seems to open as expected. I don't know why opening images directly from my Desktop would make a difference.

Perhaps you have a file that slow down XnView. With debug=2, do you have the logs?jsin wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 2:32 pm I created a new folder on the Desktop and copied a couple of images into it. Re: XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
I don't see any logs that were created, but when I opened a few images a command window opened up and I was able to copy the contents. Here is the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/144e3da ... sp=sharing
Re: XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
each time it's after "UPDATE MENU" that you have delay?
Pierre.
Re: XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
Yes, it appears so. I just opened 5 images on my Desktop and each time the pictures froze when rendering, the command prompt also freezes at:
########################################
############### UPDATE MENU ############
########################################
Then when the picture fully loads, the command prompt window continues with:
ThumbLoaderThread :: stop()
### ThumbLoaderThread :: setFileList(22)
ThumbLoaderThread :: stop()
** start condition wake one 2
### ThumbLoaderThread :: setFileList ok
######ThumbLoaderThread :: forever 2 : b0653d60

Re: XnViewMP 1.8.3 Viewer Freezes Rendering Images
Very strange. After 'UPDATE MENU', there is no CPU use, app wait for 4 seconds before to update file list, so UI is not blocked.
If you try to copy the files from desktop to an empty folder, do you have always the bug?
Could you try too the 1.8.0 or 1.8.1 to check if you have the bug?
