I would appreciate very much if you can introduce the "EXIF:date taken" to the sorting criteria, by the way date and 'Exif:date modified' are often the same.
If you introduce 'EXIF:date taken' you can sort your images so as to have near original and modified images.
Thanks for your work, you program is very useful and the best you can find!
Questions about sort by Date
Moderators: helmut, XnTriq, xnview
I would agree with fg and NikoJorj: Sorting by creation date (both File Creation Date and EXIF:Daten Taken) would be very useful for sorting pictures in their "natural" order, i.e. the order they taken.
BTW, does the sorting order apply to renaming and display in the same way? I'm a bit confused about some of the earlier posts, where it says that the date taken is used. I think it would be helpful to label the sort options more clearly, e.g. File:Date:Creation, EXIF:Date:Modified, etc. Just to avoid further confusion.
Nice work otherwise! Very helpful tool.

... one more thought on the sorting issue:
Since video files (*.avi) don't comprise EXIF data, the sorting by EXIF function doesn't work for directories comprising both videos and stills, i.e. videos are always put first or last.
Since the file creation date is identical to the EXIF:date taken in most instances (and is also available for all file types), wouldn't it be useful to "back down" to the system date for sorting, in case EXIF data is not available? Just a thought!
Thanks,
Mathias

Same here. I want to sort the photos by EXIF Date taken or Date digitalized (basically they are same). But no matter what I select (date or EXIF date), they give me the same sort in XnView. Both of them are sorted by Date modified, i.e., the date and time I edit and save the photo.
Simply put, I just want to sort them by EXIF Date taken, in other words, in the order they are taken, or "natural sort". Unfortunately it's still not implemented in version 1.91.
