When I do batch renaming, I would really use a possibility to skip some defined numbers. For example, I use renaming for daily pictures. They have original format like
cmxs1234.jpg
cmxs1235.jpg
cmxs1236.jpg
but I need to rename them to format like
2005-10-26.jpg
2005-10-27.jpg
2005-10-28.jpg
The problem is, that a have no files for sundays, saturdays, etc., so I can not use pure batch renaming (it goes in a straight succession). So I would invite a function, where I can define numbers to skip. So the result for input "27,29,30" would be
2005-10-26.jpg
2005-10-28.jpg
2005-10-31.jpg

An export feature like in deluxe, but with the ability to zoom in on the preview (and/or to have the preview applied to the actual image, the way you can with the filters and effects).
This one might be better suited as a bug report, but the "apply to image" option in the effects window should stay checked unless you uncheck it. Currently, it automatically unchecks itself every time you close the program.
For those of you requesting a lite version: Have you tried simply downloading the small/compact/minimal package? Install it to it's own directory and don't install all the plugins, and it loads near instantly. Additionally, if you already have a full installation of xnview and want to be abel to open/save some images that the minimal package can't, you can simply copy one or two plugins from the full installation into the minimal folder. This gives you exactly the abilities you want without sacrificing speed.

A "save all tabs" feature. If you've taken several screenshots, pasted several images from some other prog, scanned several images, or done anything else to get a bunch of unsaved images, it is quite tedious to have to save each one manually. Since any such situation is almost guaranteed to be a group of related pictures, it would be easy to use a batch naming function to save them. For example:
Click file->save all, a dialog pops up asking for the format and for the name. You choose jpg, and "superman-scans###" as the name, xnview then saves all current tabs as "superman-scans-001.jpg", "superman-scans-002.jpg", etc.

I would like more space in the Browser area:
- option to hide the Browser mini-toolbar (setting in Menu>View>)
- move Tabs to the right of Menu (same line) +allow multi-lines tabs
- option to move the status info at the right end of the Title bar
...that would provide 48 vertical pixels more for Thumbnails, while keeping the same functionnality.

The ability to remove EXIF thumbnails from images in batch mode. While other metadata can be useful, the EXIF thumbnails never are, and they bloat the filesize of the image needlessly. Unfortunately, nearly all cameras insert those damned thumbnails on every image they make, which currently means a lot of manual removal (or batch removal of all metadata).

THAT is precisely my point. I know that it can already be done manually, but as I stated, that can be a royal pain. I think the simplest way would be to simply add an extra checkbox to the save options for JPEGs. Currently there is an option to keep (all) exif data and one to keep itpc data, if it were changed to "keep exif text data", "keep exif thumbnail", and "keep itpc data", that would make things much easier.Dreamer wrote:

Autorotate and checkbox for watermark direct in print dialog
Hello Pierre,
as i posted before, i would appreciate, if you could move the checkbox for activating the watermark option from the watermark dialog direct into the print dialog.
Maybe as a new feature, i could imagine a auto rotate function for the print dialog, as an addition to portrait and landscape.
I think the relation between the width and the height could be easy used for autorotating the image to best fit at the paper.
This could be also a fantastic feature for a print function via command line, like "/print" "/autorotate" and "/fit_to_paper" to the default printer.

Clickable path in the mini-toolbar path box.
Click directly in the path to navigate up the hierarchy. Modern file managers support this (TC, Salamander, Dopus, etc).
Pointing at the path would hilight the path up to the folder under the cursor. Clicking there would navigate to the folder represented by that "level" in the path string.
It's a great way to very quickly navigate to parent folders several levels higher than the currently displayed one.

A toggle in adjustment dialogs to automatically create a new tab containing the adjusted image. The name of the new tab would be the original filename with additional text indicating a version number.
For instance, if I...
1. Opened MyImage.jpg
2. Used the gamma slider dialog and adjusted the gamma
3. Clicked "Place result in new tab" in the gamma dialog
4. Clicked OK
...a new tab would appear to the right of the MyImage.jpg tab.
The new tab would contain the adjusted image and would be named MyImage.V01.jpg or something like that.
The original image would remain unadjusted.
Not sure whether I would want the focus to switch to the new tab or not. Also, there could be a toggle somewhere to automatically save the new image with the new name...
This is an easy way to implement a simple form of Versioning without a lot of hassle.
