checkerboard background option for transparent images

It would be nice if there was an option to have a checkerboard background for transparent images, so that images would look something like this:

Image

It shows the alpha/opacity of each pixel, and also makes it very clear to the viewer if the background is black or transparent (currently it is ambiguous)

Microsoft Photo Editor has this and I find this extremely useful, as I am a game developer. Although I'm sure anyone working with art would appreciate this feature too. If this feature was added I would switch over completely, as I currently find XnView an excellent viewer.

:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !

• I support too, though it has been requested several times yet, and Pierre said he's not against (IIRC).

- Another way should be the capability to set different window-BGs according to the current (transparent) image
“on the spot” and on demand, there is a thread about this by there…
- Ah ! I found out it HERE ;)

 Kind regards,
Claude

An implementation similar to the one in AlphaMix would be great. This “PNG alpha-channel viewer” allows you to specify a custom background color and/or image.
